Storyhunter Creative Collaboration Platform

UX & UI Design • Product Management
Storyhunter (now called Glimmer) is a marketplace and collaboration platform for creative freelancers. It allows brands to find, collaborate with, and pay premium freelancers across the world. Clients include Meta, Starbucks, CNN, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
As Head of Design, I was the sole designer, responsible for all design work.

Without a dedicated PM, all Product Management was done between the CEO, CTO and myself.

Background

I was hired as the first in-house designer. To initially carry out all design work and over time build out a larger design team. Expected funding unfortunately did not come through, and I continued to be the sole designer.

After additional down-sizing, I together with the CEO and CTO took on product management.

On my leave, Storyhunter hired both a designer and a Product Manager.

Key projects included a product redesign, the design of a fully responsive product, and the development of our mobile apps. Concurrently to a large number of ongoing functionality updates.

Product Redesign

The product was in need of both UX and UI improvements to improve usability and user flows, and address an outdated design language. This was in addition to adding many user-requested features.

Parallel to some quick immediate fixes, I created an updated design language, that we then systematically and iteratively applied to the product. Starting with the main navigation, and then step-by-step based on screen priority.

These visual improvements were usually combined with specific functionality enhancements.

As party of the updated design language, we also updated our general brand language including the logo.

Functionality Enhancements

We designed and implemented a large numbe of functionality enhancements. These included:

  • Improved onboarding experiences
  • Simplified project completion flows
  • Mechanisms for increased buyer responsiveness
  • Improved posting search for freelancers
  • Ability to pay advances
  • Ability to share documents
  • Ability to leave buyer-internal notes on freelancers
  • Revamped payment infrastructure and setup
  • Improved project life cycles
  • Improved reporting
  • And many more ...

Responsiveness And Mobile App

As part of the product redesign, we introduced full responsiveness to all new screens.

This not only allowed for usage of the product across all types of devices. It further enabled our small engineering team to build mobile apps for iOS and Android with limited efforts via a WebView.
